Life Is More Than Possessions

Have you ever been interrupted while telling a story — just as you were getting to the good part?

In Luke 12, Jesus is teaching his disciples when a man from the crowd interrupts him, demanding help with an inheritance dispute. But instead of brushing it off, Jesus turns the moment into a powerful warning about greed, isolation, and the danger of defining life by possessions.

In this sermon, we reflect on the Parable of the Rich Fool—a man who builds bigger barns for his surplus crops, but whose life ends before he can enjoy any of it. Jesus' message is clear: “Life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

But how do we live that truth in a culture obsessed with accumulation?

Join us as we explore:

- The rich man’s sin of isolation and self-focus

- How greed distracts us from seeing God in others

- The contrast between materialism and generous living

- A powerful testimony from Bethany’s mission trip to Ecuador

- What it means to live into God's abundant economy of grace

Hear how the humility and hospitality of our Ecuadorian partners gave our mission team a new vision of generosity, community, and faith. Sometimes, all we need is a change of perspective. Other times, we need a change of setting.
