Finding Jesus in Unexpected Places | Matthew 16:13–20

Jesus asks his disciples a question that still reaches us today: “Who do you say that I am?” Surrounded by competing voices, distractions, uncertainty, and symbols of worldly power, Peter recognizes Jesus as the Messiah, not because he has figured everything out, but because faith has been given to him as a gift.

Through a personal story from Bogotá, Colombia, this sermon explores what happens when the gospel moves from something we have heard to something we experience as deeply real. Jesus meets us in unexpected places, works through community, and sets us free to share God’s love, grace, and forgiveness with others.
