What Happens When We Choose Forgiveness? | Matthew 18
Forgiveness can feel impossible, especially when hurt runs deep or keeps happening. Through the story of Joseph and his brothers and Jesus’ teaching about forgiving “seventy-seven times,” this sermon explores forgiveness not simply as something God demands from us, but as a reflection of God’s own merciful heart.
God’s forgiveness frees us from keeping score. And as that mercy takes root in us, we are invited to become people with tender hearts: people who do not have to remain imprisoned by resentment, anger, or the wounds we carry.
What You’ll Learn
Why Joseph’s response to his brothers reveals a remarkable tenderness of heart
What Jesus means when he tells Peter to forgive “seventy-seven times”
How holding onto resentment can become its own kind of prison
Why Christian forgiveness begins with the forgiveness we have already received from God
How mercy helps shape us more fully into the people God created us to be
