God, I wonder about

God, I wonder about…
All throughout Lent, Pastor Nate will be sharing reflections on ways to start a conversation with God. These short prayer prompts provide you with a way to begin your prayers on a variety of topics. Today, we reflect on the gift of curiosity in our faith.
Have you ever felt like you’re not supposed to ask certain questions about God? Maybe you’ve worried that wondering too much about faith means you don’t have enough of it. But when I read the Bible, I don’t see a God who discourages questions—I see a God who invites them.
Think of the disciples. They were constantly asking Jesus questions: Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? How many times should we forgive? Lord, where are you going? Even on the cross, Jesus himself cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). If Jesus could ask questions, surely, we can too.
Faith isn’t about having all the answers, it’s also about trusting God enough to share all our questions with God. Because God wants a relationship with us; not just blind obedience. Some mysteries may remain, but in the process of wondering, we draw closer in relationship with the One who holds all things together.
Today, talk with God about the questions that are on your heart. Be honest about your doubts, your curiosities, and the things you may never fully understand. God welcomes your wondering.
