Blessed Jesus, help me to let go of...
All throughout Lent, Pastor Nate will be sharing reflections on ways to start a conversation with God. These short prayer prompts provide you with a way to begin your prayers on a variety of topics. Today, we reflect on the things in our lives that we are holding onto tightly, and the freedom that comes when we release them to God.
There are many things that we humans just seem to love to hold onto. Whether it's past hurts, fears for the future, or even the need for control in our present lives. And all too often the things we hold onto most tightly that weigh us down most heavily. We think we’re protecting ourselves by holding on, but in reality, we are often trapping ourselves in anxiety, bitterness, or frustration.
Jesus invites us to let go. He calls us to take up His yoke, which is easy and light (Matthew 11:30). This doesn't mean we avoid hardship, but it means we no longer have to carry it alone or try to control it all. In surrendering our burdens to Jesus, we find rest, peace, and freedom.
Today, reflect on what you might be holding onto that is preventing you from experiencing God’s peace. Is there something—be it a fear, a grudge, a worry, or a regret—that God is asking you to release? Trust that when you let go, Jesus is there to catch you and carry you through.
