Compassionate God, I Weep For

Compassionate God, I weep for…
All throughout Lent, Pastor Nate will be sharing reflections on ways to start a conversation with God. These short prayer prompts provide you with a way to begin your prayers on a variety of topics. Today, we bring our sorrows and heartbreaks before God, trusting in God’s compassion.
There are times when grief and sorrow feel like an overwhelming wave, crashing over us with no end in sight. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, the suffering of others, or the pain of injustice in the world, these moments can leave us feeling helpless and brokenhearted. Yet, we are not alone in our pain.
The Bible reminds us that Jesus Himself wept—He wept at the death of His friend Lazarus (John 11:35), and He wept over the city of Jerusalem, knowing the suffering it would face (Luke 19:41). Jesus understands the depths of sorrow, and He invites us to bring our tears to Him. Our weeping is never in vain, for God is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).
Today, take a moment to bring your sorrow before God. What burdens are you carrying that cause your heart to ache? Trust that in your tears, God’s compassion is ever-present, and God will comfort you in your pain.
