Christmas in July

“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” - 1 John 3:18

There always seems to be a flurry of outreach activities during the holiday season. All of a sudden it seems everyone is looking for a way to help others. The Christmas message of love resonates across faith traditions. I have a friend who runs a non-profit. She shares with me that so many people offer to volunteer during December, but in July only a handful of volunteers can be found. Maybe the idea of celebrating Christmas in July isn’t such a bad idea! The needs in our community are tremendous and sadly they do not dissipate once our holiday celebrations end. As Christians we understand we are saved by “faith alone” and works are not required for our salvation, but it is out of joy and gratitude for God’s tremendous gift of grace that we look for ways to share this love with others. Let’s be intentional in seeking out ways to show this love throughout the year!

Peace,
Deacon Debra
