The Season of Easter

As we come to the end of the liturgical Easter of Season, I wanted to offer a reflection on the last 50 days in our life as a church.

Easter is not just a single day but an entire season of celebration.  We join in offering God the highest praises for the incredible promise of life after death that Jesus inaugurated on that first Easter morning.   The entire Easter season challenges us to reconsider what’s possible with God.  It proclaims a message to everyone that tomorrow doesn’t have to be like today; that God can surprise us again; that our age-old assumptions might not be always true.

God can and will do a new thing and this moves us to a space of amazing joy and hope because there really is no end to what God can do.

But, as is always the case with God’s gracious action, the new hope of Easter should not only be a call for joy and praise, it is also a call to action.  Easter is also a time when we are invited to become conduits of God’s resurrection power.  We not only rejoice at the empty tomb but we also go forth to tell others about this Good News, and to work to bring resurrection power to the world in small and big ways.

Easter is a great season for repairing a broken relationship; for planting seeds that will grow into new life; for donating to organizations that do life-saving work.  Easter is the season of Resurrection and we are Resurrection people called to cultivate new life.
