Epiphanies For Epiphany - Faith

We find ourselves in the season of Epiphany, a time of discovery and insight.  Throughout this liturgical season we are invited to allow the light of Christ to illumine our hearts and minds as we grow in faith and come to know Jesus more personally.  These devotionals looks at six different “epiphanies” from my personal journey of faith. Through scripture, quotes, and our life of worship, we will explore each "epiphany" from a number of different angles.

Growing up, I often thought of church as a place with lots of rules: where you nice clothes, don't run in the building, no talking during the service etc. I was also taught the 10 Commandments, which while valuable, only reinforced this idea that church and faith was all about getting everything right. ⠀

While working at a church in my adult years I tried so hard to get everything exactly right, after all, I assumed that because it was church, things had to be perfect. But a wise mentor freed me from this mindset and told me that our job is to be faithful, not necessarily successful.⠀

What is the Faith?
"Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies." - Mother Teresa
Faith doesn't always have to be expressed in huge and heroic displays. Faith also means remembering God during the seemingly insignificant moments of your day. Faith in God happens right now. In whatever little action or chore, you are taking right now, that is an expression of your faith.

Where do we see Faith in Worship?
As part of our worship service each week, we recite together the Apostles' Creed. The creed is an ancient statement of faith that has been used in the Christian church for well over a thousand years.

By proclaiming this statement of faith together each week, we are reminded that the journey of faith isn't something that we do alone. We support one another in our walk of faith and lift each other up when doubt and struggle arise.
