Waiting Patiently

“But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

Romans 8:25

In general, I have thought of myself as a patient person. Recently I have looked out my window to see frost or snow and found myself eagerly awaiting signs of spring and being truly frustrated with winter. (And that ground hog was not my friend this year…) I’m looking forward to sitting outside with sunshine on my face without wearing layers and/or a coat. This is coming from someone who grew up in Minnesota and Wisconsin – states that experience longer and more severe winters than Colorado!

As I was examining this lack of patience, I had also started reading a book recommended by a friend, “The Let Them Theory” by Mel Robbins. The premise of this theory is how to let go of control you don’t really have in the first place and embrace what you can do. Sound familiar? Years ago, I was introduced to the expression, “Let Go and Let God.” Perhaps my impatience with winter had little to do with winter but was an invitation to examine my life, specifically what “controls” my life. As Ash Wednesday approaches next week to begin the Lenten journey, I have decided to reflect on this and make it my focus for Lent. Perhaps I’ll be spending time praying while looking at those beautiful snow topped mountains.
