The Book of Esther - The Hidden Power of God

“He sent back this answer: ‘Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?’” – Esther 3:13-14

Esther is the only book in the Bible that does not directly mention God and yet that detail is part of the overall message of the book.  Esther is the newly chosen queen of Persia and the adopted daughter of Mordecai, the Jew.  In this foreign land, ripe with persecution, Esther courageously and wisely works to save the life of Mordecai and the Jews in Persia.

The book of Esther encourages readers to see that even though God may remain hidden, God is still at work in the world through the actions of ordinary people.  As we read this book today, it serves as a good reminder that God is still at work in the world and in fact our wise and courageous actions can be the very moments of God in this present age.
