The Book of Psalms - The Poetry of Faith

Trust in the Lord at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. – Psalm 62:8

The Psalms are a compilation of 150 various poems and hymns that were used in the Ancient Hebrew worship practices.  These different prayers to God are collected from every period of Israel’s history.  They cover the breadth of human emotions, providing meaningful reflection on sorrow, grief, joy, gratitude, and everything in between.

Each Psalm is a prayer addressed to God, and given the wide range of emotions articulated in this prayer book, it is clear that we are to be encouraged to bring our full array of emotions before God.  God desires a full relationship with each of us and so that includes all of our emotional ups and downs.
