This We Believe - Eucharist 1

Eucharist 1
The life of faith encompasses several events and moments that we journey through multiple times during the course of a lifetime.  The devotion below is part of an ongoing series that explores these central themes of Christian doctrine.

“At the Eucharist, Jesus says to his disciples, ‘Do this in remembrance of me.’ Do this to remember how we healed the sick and cured the lepers and relieved those possessed by demons.” - Nora Gallagher

Holy Communion is often called the Eucharist, which means “Thanksgiving”.   It is a shared meal where the gathered community shares in the very presence of Jesus together.   We all ingest Christ’s presence reminding us that Christ is not distant or far off but rather truly present within each of us.  And that is why we give thanks.

When Jesus first shared Communion with his disciples he told them to “do this in remembrance of me.”  Our continued practice of this meal invites us to remember this presence of Christ in, with, and around us.  This remembering fills us not only with gratitude, but also renews a sense of purpose within us as we continue to follow the one we remember, Jesus Christ.
