This We Believe - Eucharist 2

Eucharist 2
The life of faith encompasses several events and moments that we journey through multiple times during the course of a lifetime.  The devotion below is part of an ongoing series that explores these central themes of Christian doctrine.

“The Community that gathers for the Eucharist is the body of Christ.  WE are the body given for each other, ‘this is my body, he said, look around you.” - Nora Gallagher

During Communion, the bread is blessed, broken, and given to the gathered community.  Those movements are also a microcosm of the life of faith.  We are all initially blessed by God our Creator who is always willing to extend love, mercy, and grace to us.  However, in the course of our life we encounter brokenness, grief, and pain.  And yet, these scars that fill our life also allow us to better connect with the broken people around us.  We are given to each other; to care for one another amid our brokenness.

Holy Communion not only calls us to remember Jesus, but it also calls us to remember our calling to go forth and be the presence of Christ for others.
