This We Believe - Crucifixion 1

Crucifixion 1
The life of faith encompasses several events and moments that we journey through multiple times during the course of a lifetime.  The devotion below is part of an ongoing series that explores these central themes of Christian doctrine.

“God does not think humankind so wretched that it deserves death and hell, but that God thinks humankind and the whole creation so good, so beautiful, so precious to its intention and potentiality, that its actualization, its fulfillment, its redemption is worth dying for.”
- Douglas John Hall

The life of Jesus ends with his brutal crucifixion at the hands of the Roman authorities.  It is the willing sacrifice of an innocent person who was God in human form.  The Cross of Christ proclaims to us that God would rather die than condemn us.  Not only that, but the Cross also shows us that there is no place God will not go for the one’s God loves.

We have no reason to fear death because the crucifixion shows us that death is a place where God has been.  Death is also something that God has touched and therefore made holy.
