This We Believe - Eschatology 2

Eschatology 2
The life of faith encompasses several events and moments that we journey through multiple times during the course of a lifetime.  The devotion below is part of an ongoing series that explores these central themes of Christian doctrine.

“God’s Kingdom is present in its beginnings, but still future in its fullness… in this stage, we embrace the reality that while we’re not yet what we will be, we’re also no longer what we used to be.” - Timothy Keller

The Kingdom of God is a topic that Jesus spoke about often.  We usually hear these words and assume that Jesus is talking about our future heavenly home, but in fact Jesus was talking about an earthly reality as well.  The Kingdom of God is a reality that we glimpse throughout our life times as God’s future hopes for the world break into our current moments.

As Christians, we are not looking to achieve enough credits so that we can escape this world and arrive in the heavenly kingdom.  Instead, we are confident that the future is in God’s hands, that no matter what we will ultimately be with God, but that in the meantime we work to bring the beauty of God’s Kingdom into the spaces we inhabit in this world.
