This We Believe - Eschatology 3

Eschatology 3
The life of faith encompasses several events and moments that we journey through multiple times during the course of a lifetime.  The devotion below is part of an ongoing series that explores these central themes of Christian doctrine.

“All too often we give into the belief that there’s nothing much we can do about the state of the world.  And we are wrong.  Our task in the present is to live as resurrection people. We are called to be a sign of the first resurrection and a foretaste of the next.” - N.T. Wright

When we can have confidence that all future reality rests in God’s hands, it opens us up to see each day as a gift and opportunity.  Today is a chance to help more people discover the promises we ourselves know.  Through our words and actions we can be a sign of God’s transformative power at work in the world.

The current moment is all we have and it is all we need because we know that the future is in God’s hands.  In our Lutheran Liturgy we speak about communion as “a foretaste of the feast to come” it is a glimpse of the grace and mercy that awaits us all in the future.  In the same way, our lives can provide others with glimpses of God’s grace and mercy right now.
