The Book of Galatians - Identity in Christ

“For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” – Galatians 3:26-28

Galatia is located in modern day Turkey and it was the site of one of the churches that the Apostle Paul started.  His letter to the Galatians that’s included in our Bibles is a letter written out of deep concern for the community.  Throughout the letter, Paul is addressing the competing messages that the Galatians are hearing form Jewish authorities in their region.  Paul is adamant that we are not justified by our works but rather through our faith in Jesus Christ (Galatians 2:16).

The words of Paul to the Galatians can serve as a powerful reminder to us today as we struggle with the competing messages in our world.  The message of Galatians tells us that our identity is found in Christ.  Our salvation is not dependent upon the balance in our bank account, the popularity we achieve, or the length of our resume.  Our ultimate worth is determined by what Christ has done for us.
