Then the Lord said to Moses, “I am going to rain bread from heaven for you, and each day the people shall go out and gather enough for that day. In that way I will test them, whether they will follow my instruction or not. 5 On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather on other days.” - Exodus 16:4-5
Give us THIS day
God was making this clear way before Jesus shared this phrase when the disciples asked him to teach them to pray. Daily – prayer, requests, trust. A scarcity mindset is difficult to overcome if you have spent days being hungry. Reliance on God seems to only work when there is always enough, or more than enough. The days of wilderness wandering taught reliance on God in dramatic fashion. But it seems easier to pray daily than to trust daily.
God, help me trust in you – daily. Amen.
