Hymn Reflection - My Life Flows on in Endless Song

Holding to Christ in Every Storm

"No storm can shake my inmost calm
while to the rock I'm clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
how can I keep from singing?"

— From the hymn “My Life Flows on in Endless Song”

These lyrics don’t deny the reality of storms in our lives, rather they assume that there will be storms. The hymn doesn’t promise an easy path or a protected one. Instead, it points us toward what truly steadies us: the Rock to whom we cling.

Faith doesn’t mean we are never anxious or afraid. It means we know where to place our trust when the ground beneath us feels unsteady. Christ does not remove us from the storm rather, Christ meets us within it.

I love that these ideas are expressed in the words of a hymn because singing in the midst of uncertainty strikes me as a true act of faith. It’s a full-hearted declaration that the chaos does not get the final word. We sing these words because they are rooted in the deep belief that God really can meet us in the most precarious of circumstances and still lead us to calm.

So today, whatever storm you’re facing, cling to the Rock. Let hope rise, even if it’s fragile. Let gratitude find its voice.

Today’s affirmation:
Christ, you are my steady ground.
When the storm rages, hold me fast
and teach me again to trust and sing your praises.
